“Harry Manfredini (born August 25, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American film composer and jazz soloist, who has scored more than one hundred films, including the Friday the 13th film series. He has had years of classical training, as well as twenty years in the popular music scene. In conversation with Russian journalist and composer Tony Vilgotsky, Harry Manfredini said that his musical tastes and style were influenced by such composers like Giacomo Puccini, Igor Stravinsky, Maurice Ravel and others.” (credit: Wikipedia). “The longer cut will give you more of the stuff that you probably watch this movie for. But the theatrical cut is on the disc if you want it, as well as a couple of 11-minute featurettes on the new movie and the franchise, three deleted scenes (a different version of Jason getting his mask, the police response to the phone call, and a revised climax), and “The 7 Best Kills,” which provides behind-the-scenes info on key deaths. A commentary track, which combines movie and franchise trivia with picture-in-picture footage of crew members discussing the film, is pretty sporadic (it tends to appear more frequently on the important scenes) and repeats some of the info in other features (which is pretty common).” –David Horiuchi

The cast and crew featured Sean S. Cunningham (Producer/Director), Victor Miller (Writer), Betsy Palmer as Mrs. Pamela Voorhees, Adrienne King as Alice, Harry Crosby as Bill, Laurie Bartram as Brenda, Mark Nelson as Ned, Jeannine Taylor as Marcy, Robbie Morgan as Annie and the infamous Kevin Bacon as Jack. That means it’s time to play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon!

John Carpenter’s masterpiece Halloween, like it or not, is at the very least indirectly responsible for the birth of Friday the 13th. It can be argued that without the existence of Halloween the idea of another spooky calendar date-based movie would have not been pitched. It’s a pretty interesting dichotomy to say the least.

Tom Savini is an American actor, stunt performer, film director, and prosthetic makeup artist. He is known for his makeup and special effects work on many films directed by George A. Romero, including Martin, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow and Monkey Shines; he also created the special effects and makeup for many cult classics like Friday the 13th, Maniac, The Burning, The Prowler and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

PETA didn’t officially form until 1980 which put this film out of it’s range for investigation due to the scene where a real snake was killed.

Legendary. Legendary in film itself (let alone the singular genre of horror). We highly recommend the 25th Anniversary edition for full exposure to this film experience. We still can’t get over that turtle scene. Oddly enough, a film like this is actually available on Amazon Prime Video.

The Last Angry Man was the last film Betsie Palmer had done before her long time away from Hollywood roles. Her return to Hollywood came in the form of Friday the 13th and the only reason she did the movie was to have money enough to buy a new car. Still have a VCR? Good. When Pepsi commercials with wholesome kids were mentioned, we were thinking something along the lines of this one

Betamax is the long, defunct home video format that lost to VHS. Fun fact: whatever home video formats the porn industry gets behind are the ones that are successful. Food for thought.

00:33:45 = Harry Crosby

Harry Crosby is the son of famed crooner Bing Crosby. He only spent four years solely in film before becoming an investment banker. Originally it was thought that Harry was cast on the film because of his name and not his acting skill thereby garnering more attention to the film when it was released. Harry himself stated that he didn’t even want to use his real name to attach to the project and wanted to be judged on his acting merit alone in order to make his own name in Hollywood.

00:34:21 = Jamie Lee Curtis & Her Parents

Much like Harry Crosby, Jamie Lee Curtis was also thought to have been cast in the original Halloween movie simply because her parents (Tony Curtis & Janet Leigh) were once Hollywood royalty.

After all the business given to Harry Crosby over usage of his famous last name, intended or not, during a first run of the VHS tape they misprinted his name to read “Harry Crosy”. It’s rare but there are a few out there. You might want to check eBay and see if you can find this hard-to-find collectible on the cheap!

The original Frankenstein monster himself, Boris Karloff. He was also the voice of The Grinch in the animated Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre / Race With the Devil / Halloween

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, one the three genre-mates we mention in the podcast celebrated it’s 40th anniversary in 2014 (October 14th) and the occasion was marked with a limited edition home video release on blu-ray. The limited edition release offers packaging in the shape of the famous Black Maria semi truck from the film. It also includes a blood splattered Leatherface apron, the official theatrical mini poster and a 5th bonus disc exclusive to the limited edition release. You can get the 40th anniversary blu-ray boxed set here. Halloween also celebrated a 40th anniversary with the release of a long-awaited sequel in 2018.

A battle for the ages. This was one of those ideas that tons of fans dreamed of and wanted to see. Did it lose something in translation? If you’re not familiar then you should pick up a copy right here. The soundtrack to the movie is also available here. There’s also a book about the process of the movie finally getting made that was put out by Harker Press. It’s called Slash of the Titans: The Road to Freddy Vs. Jason and is also available here.
